A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. The computing curriculum is broken down into three strands:
At St Joseph’s, computing is taught using computers, laptops and iPads and also through the use of other equipment such as cameras, recording equipment and BeeBots.
Children have weekly class lessons to be taught computing knowledge and skills but also apply these skills in other subject areas. The school is following the Purple Mash Computing Scheme.
Purple Mash is a cross curricular cloud-based platform that allows our pupils to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. It contains a wide range of age-appropriate, creative software tools for writing, drawing, coding, animating, blogging and much more. In addition to these programs, the platform provides resources and themed lesson activities, which can be set for pupils to do at home. Feedback on their work can then be provided to the pupil, including recorded audio feedback, and all the work is stored online, within Purple Mash.
